Ammonite Fossil – Wirewrapped Pendant Tutorial

Description

In this lesson you will learn how to set a polished ammonite fossil in a wire wrapped bezel.

Although this design was originally developed for natural ammonite fossils, I’ve had many students make their own ammonite shaped focals out of clay and other materials to wrap in this style.

The amount of wire needed will depend on the size of the ammonite you are wrapping. The formula for determining the amount of wire needed is included in the tutorial.

Material List:

* 20g Round dead soft wire (amount to be determined by the size of the ammonite)
* 28g Round dead soft wire (amount to be determined by the size of the ammonite)
* 1 Ammonite

Tool List:

* Chain nose pliers
* Round nose pliers
* Wire cutters
* Flat nose pliers
* Ruler
* Marker (or pen)
* Tape or a piece of scrap paper
* Needle file or wire rounder
